Emily is interested in how early developmental, behavioral, and cognitive factors impact later life outcomes. As an undergraduate at Duke, she participated in research at the Duke Canine Cognition Center and Canine Companions for Independence, culminating in a senior thesis focusing on inhibitory control in dogs. She recently received her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, where she partnered with The Seeing Eye to conduct a 2.5-year longitudinal study of guide dog development.
